Job Description

GEMS Royal Dubai school is vibrant Primary School (FS1 – Year 6) with 850 students from over 68 nationalities and accredited as a World-Class High Performance Learning School. In our exciting new structure, we are looking for a dynamic and passionate individual to become the school’s strategic lead for Early Years Foundation Stage literacy. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic leader and an outstanding teacher, with significant previous experience, to lead literacy and teach within our EYFS Phase.

 Job Purpose:

To drive the development of literacy, including phonics, through innovative curriculum opportunities which enable an outstanding, holistic, and dynamic experience for our students and lead to exceptionally high outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Drive the review and development of EYFS literacy based on internal and externally validated data and cohort needs, ensuring skills progression is rigorously mapped for all areas of literacy in the EYFS Framework.
  • Ensure the curriculum and provision enables students to clearly demonstrate early literacy knowledge and skills.
  • Work in partnership with other leaders, contributing significantly to the MER documentation for each year group with a specific focus on outstanding literacy and phonics teaching, the quality of planning against the curriculum standard and the evidence of progress in books, in line with our HPL philosophy.
  • Plan and deliver bespoke Professional Development that significantly supports whole school priorities, and the needs of specific year groups and individual teachers.
  • To lead, develop and enhance the teaching practices of others by observing, modelling, team-teaching, and offering guidance as an EY literacy and phonics expert.
  • Monitor the impact of the literacy curriculum and phonics programme on student outcomes, ensuring students can articulate the learning journey and their next steps.
  • Collaborate with the English lead and Key Stage 1 Lead to support KS1 teachers with the implementation, tracking and monitoring of phonics to ensure consistency and progress from EYFS to KS1.
  • Take responsibility for the phonics and reading resources, ensuring they are properly maintained and that there is sufficient supply for the needs of the school.
  • Rigorously quality assure the planning, and delivery of, high-quality interventions that lead to clear, measurable impact.
  • Develop effective assessment and moderation models, including standardised materials, to ensure accurate and robust assessment information.
  • Conduct data analysis for all areas of EYFS literacy, presenting trends and strategic next steps to leaders and teachers and use data to contribute to the School’s Self-Evaluation and Improvement Planning.
  • Work effectively as part of the EYFS leadership team alongside the EYFS maths lead and head of EYFS to make significant and regular contributions to the SDP and SEF.
  • Write and regularly review an annual action plan for literacy, including phonics, which ensures consistency in the teaching and high attainment and progress of children.
  • Actively pursue your own professional development as a leader.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by the CEO and Principal.

Skills

PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status

Experience working within a British Curriculum school 

Experience of Early years Literacy framework
